Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
When you enter a name or a date of birth into a search tool on this site, the entry passes straight to the outside provider that runs the search. That company processes the request and returns the results. We do not keep or log the terms you enter.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, we keep the message so we can answer it. It stays with our team and is not shared outside our organization unless a legal obligation requires it.
Data We Gather Automatically
Each time a page here loads, our servers record a small set of technical details about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Your device type and operating system
- The browser you use and its version
- The site that referred you here, when there is one
- Which pages you opened and how long each stayed on screen
- A timestamp for every page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files this site stores on your device. They show us which pages draw the most traffic and where readers tend to leave. Analytics services help us group that traffic data into reports. You can block cookies in your browser settings at any time, though some parts of the site may behave differently if you do.
What We Do With This Data
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Keeping the site online and loading quickly
- Tracking down and repairing technical problems
- Learning which pages readers find useful and which need work
- Showing advertising that may line up with your interests
No Warrant Data on File
This site does not host, build, compile, or sell any database of warrants or personal warrant records. We publish general guidance about where Lyon County warrant records are held and how to check them through the District Court, the county sheriff, and Minnesota's public case system, which has no single statewide public warrant list. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and nothing we collect about visitors is assembled into consumer reports or into records about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
The search boxes here are run by outside companies. Whatever you type into one of those tools is processed under that partner's privacy policy rather than this one. Partners set their own retention and sharing rules, and we have no control over them. Read the partner's policy before you submit a search.
Links to Other Websites
We link out to Minnesota court pages, county sheriff pages, the state case search, legal aid organizations, and third-party search tools. Following one of those links takes you off this site, and the destination's privacy policy governs from that point. Read it before you share personal details.
Some advertising partners track activity across websites to target ads. That tracking happens on their systems, not on ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. A limited amount of information may reach:
- Analytics services that measure traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place advertising on our pages
- Search partners that handle the queries you run here
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard security practices to protect the data we collect. Nothing online is ever fully secure, so while we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe, we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us data, contact us and we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Minnesota's data practices law governs how state and local government agencies handle data about you. It is the law behind the record requests described elsewhere on this site, and its two main provisions are Minn. Stat. §13.03 on access to public data and Minn. Stat. §13.04 on the rights of a data subject. That law does not bind a private website, so our own handling of visitor data is described on this page. Wherever you live, you can:
- Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you
- Request that we correct information that is wrong
- Ask us to delete your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may change. When it does, the revised version appears on this page with a new effective date, so check back if you want to follow how visitor information is handled.
